Modieslab is 2-layer Very Open Cement Concrete slab on piles. This is a construction method that is interesting mainly for new roads and widening in areas that are prone to subsidence in particular. Modieslab can also be used as a relatively thin top layer on reinforced concrete throughways when a durable noise-reducing top layer is a consideration. This road surface was conceived and developed by Modieslab VOF in the Module Road Surface pilot (part of the RWS innovation programme Roads to the Future).
In 2001, a trial section was laid in the parallel road to De Somp beside the A50. This has been monitored and reported. The innovation has also been tested at the Delft University of Technology with the Lintrack.
Supplementary research is now being conducted for a test section in the A12 by-pass at Oudenrijn. If this research is successful, the test section will be laid in mid-June 2006.
